These homemade, heart-shaped cherry blossom sugar cubes are super easy to make– simply mix one cup of sugar, a teaspoon of water, and whatever edible flower petals you like into a wet-sand mixture that you can press into a candy mold. Then, let the mixture dry in molds overnight to set the sugar and voilà– homemade sugar cubes!
I like using a heart-shaped candy mold to make cute mini heart-shaped sugar cubes, but really any candy mold should work, as long as the wells are about 2-3 cm across and not much larger. Regardless of what shape you choose, I recommend using a silicone mold, which is more flexible than plastic and certainly better for you and the environment. It’ll be easier to pop the cubes out of a silicone mold, as well.

Homemade Cherry Blossom Sugar Cube Recipe
These DIY cherry blossom sugar cubes make a lovely addition to tea– they also make a cute housewarming gift or party detail to delight guests. And they’re easy enough to make that kids can also help!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup loosely-packed cherry blossoms, stems and leaves removed
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon water

Instructions
- Pick cherry blossoms fresh from a cherry tree– ensuring that these are, in fact, cherry blossoms and that they haven’t been sprayed with anything. Remove any bitter green leaves.
- Mix together sugar and water until it forms a wet sand-like mixture. Incorporate the cherry blossom petals with your hands until evenly distributed.
- Use a candy mold like this heart-shaped mold I got from Etsy and press the sugar mixture into the molds until well-packed. Sugar should feel tightly pressed together like a sandcastle, with no air pockets anywhere in the mold, otherwise the cubes will crumble when you try to pop them out.
- Let the sugar mixture dry overnight to set the cubes, then pop them out and voilà! Cherry blossom sugar cubes. 🙂 Store them out of direct sunlight in an air-tight container until ready to use– they look gift-ready in a mason jar. Enjoy!
